What is RPA and How its being used across the companies?

Machine Automation is, Earlier Manufacturing industries only were going towards automation but now its started in the IT world. Technology Automation is happening in software like Devops, Automation tools like Chef and some kind of Build automation tools like Jenkins, we use them as deployment tools and Build & Release, we can check the code and we can build the code, and can deploy the code into a server and we can reach out to the server. Now where they automated this process using the build in tools.

For example, As clients are having distributed environments like in 10 to 15 client environments, where if we have to login an individual system with certain login permissions in the profile, creating different types of user profiles and then doing different kinds of installations and checking permissions so that each user will have limited access except other than the admin. 

For creating all these things and the installations of a particular software into the working environment and making all these things ready will take a minimum of 4 to 5 days for an infrastructure developer to build. But now with the Devops tools like Chef, we have to put the same configuration into the Chef and only changing different IP addresses, we can configure a system and putting it on Chef and scripting, it will only automatically do all the process like file downloading, installing, permission creations, configuring etc. That was a software employee job and now it is automated.

Business Process Automation:- RPA is a business Process Automation tool. When you apply for a Loan there would be different teams of people in banking business process whom we call ‘backend operations’ like ICICI Lombardi in the banking and insurance domains, who are process the loan while checking customer application to, verifying documents, validating documents against customer’s Economical and Social living status and his payability, CIBIL, other loans etc., which is purely manual activity and time taking and expensive process for an organization. That’s where we can use RPA by given logic and functionalities and can validate the data information. Its like we are automating complete BPO Non Voice process while optimizing cost, resources, infra and can release loans very faster so that they can acquire more marketing advantages than that of their own customers.

A software 'robot' is a software application that replicates the actions of a human being interacting with the user interface of a computer system. RPA vs Traditional automation

Software robots interpret the user interface of third party applications and are configured to execute steps identically to a human user. They are configured (or "trained") using demonstrative steps, rather than being programmed using code-based instructions. This is an important concept in the RPA market because the intention is not to provide another "coding" platform for IT users (who already have the benefit of mature and tested software development and middleware platforms). Rather, the intention is to provide an agile and configurable capability to non-technical "business" users in operational departments. The paradigm, in summary, is that a software robot should be a virtual worker who can be rapidly "trained" (or configured) by a business user in an intuitive manner, which is akin to how an operational user would train a human colleague.

The benefit of this approach is twofold. Firstly it enables operations departments to self-serve. Secondly, it frees up the limited and valuable skills of IT professionals to concentrate on more strategic IT implementations such as ERP and BPMS rollouts. Such programs are often upheld as being transformational in nature, delivering huge returns in the medium to long term, whereas RPA is typically focused on immediate operational effectiveness, quality and cost efficiency. RPA is classically seen therefore as complementary to existing automation initiatives.
